A note from the founder

Started at one station. Now it's a whole network.

I began CrystalGameLegends in a flat above a chippy near Borough Market, writing reviews nobody read on a laptop that overheated during boss fights. The idea was simple: treat games criticism like a transit map — clear lines, honest connections, no dead ends.

Seven years later we're a small team of writers who still argue about frame rates on the Northern line home. We don't chase review scores or publisher access. We map what's actually worth your evenings — and we tell you which stops to skip.

The lines we run

Five routes. One network.

Each column is a beat we cover end to end — pick a line and ride it. Memberships keep the whole map free of paywalls.

Red Line

In-depth reviews, no publisher spin

Every review is played to credits before we score it. Verdicts land within 72 hours of embargo, with a clear "worth the fare?" call and no affiliate strings attached.

Blue Line

Retro deep-dives

Long reads on the games that laid the tracks — 1,500-word histories every fortnight, with hardware teardowns from our Bermondsey archive.

Green Line

Indie spotlight

A weekly feature on a game you haven't heard of yet, plus interviews with the developers who made it — often from right here in the UK.

Violet Line

Esports on the ground

Match reports and roster news from London LANs and beyond — we're in the crowd, not reading the press release.

Amber Line · Members

Supporter membership

£4/month keeps the site ad-light and unlocks the monthly zine, priority Q&As and early access to reviews. Cancel any stop along the way.

Frequently asked questions

How do you decide review scores?+

We finish the game first, always. Scores are out of ten and weigh how a game holds up over a full playthrough, not just its opening hours. Every review names its platform, playtime and whether the copy was bought or provided, so you can judge our judgement.

Do you accept sponsored posts?+

No. Editorial is never for sale and we don't run "paid reviews". The site is funded by supporter memberships and a small number of clearly-labelled display ads. If a piece involves a paid partnership of any kind, we'll say so at the top.

How often do you publish?+

Something new lands most weekdays — usually a mix of one review, a news brief and a longer feature each week. Members get the monthly zine on the first Monday, and our retro deep-dive drops every second Thursday.

Can I pitch an article or send a game?+

Absolutely — we read every pitch, especially from UK-based indie developers and first-time freelancers. Email us a short outline and a couple of writing samples using the form below. We aim to reply within five working days, even if it's a no.

What does a membership actually cost?+

Supporter membership is £4 per month or £40 per year, billed securely and cancellable at any time. It keeps the site running independently and unlocks the print-style zine, early reviews and priority developer Q&As. There's no premium paywall on the news and reviews themselves.
